Early Treatment

Early Orthodontic Treatment

Along with the American Association of Orthodontists (AA0), we recommend that a child receive their first orthodontic screening by the age of 7. By starting treatment early, we are able to recognize potential problems early and correct them before they turn in to much more serious ones. This not only saves you and your child time, but money as well.

Benefits of Early Orthodontic Treatment

Early interceptive orthodontic treatment has proven to be beneficial for the overall desired result. Because a young child’s permanent teeth have not finished erupting, we are able to thoroughly evaluate the front-to-back and side-to-side tooth relationships and address any impending problems at its earliest stage. Early treatment can significantly enhance your child’s smile, but the benefits of seeing an orthodontist at a young age extend far beyond that of appearance. In addition to correcting the various number of bite problems that are prominent in young children, tooth extractions can also be avoided, saving you a great deal of money and time in the process. The result of early orthodontic treatment is ultimately straight teeth. Straight teeth are not only much easier to keep clean, but they are also far less susceptible to gum disease and tooth decay, which can cause severe problems if they are not taken care of at the appropriate time.

Initial Evaluation

During your child’s initial evaluation we will first determine if there are any problems that need to be addressed. Such problems that are common include, but are not limited to, potential crowding, open bite, overbite, cross bite, spacing and gummy smiles. It is possible that immediate orthodontic treatment is not necessary at the time or even at all. However, if orthodontic treatment is indicated, we will create a personalized treatment plan for your child that will prove to be the most beneficial for his/her specific case. The personalized treatment plan that we will provide you with will enable you to be fully informed about each process that is going to take place so that you know just as much about your child’s orthodontic treatment as we do.

Every Patient is Different

Early orthodontic treatment varies between patients, because everyone has a different dental landscape that poses different problems. Treatment may include removable or fixed appliances, such as braces and retainers, which can provide more room for teeth that are crowded and erupting. These orthodontic appliances are also able to provide many further benefits for patients in need of them. Such benefits include preserving space for teeth that have yet to erupt, creating facial symmetry through the manipulating of jaw growth, reducing the possibility that a tooth, or teeth, extraction will be necessary and reducing the overall duration of time that treatment for braces will be needed.

Our two orthodontic offices are conveniently located in Town n Country and Wesley Chapel, but we serve the greater Tampa areas including Carrollwood, Lakeland and many more areas as well.
